Displacement vs planning on wing boards : My current observations and understanding is that as soon as one starts pumping the board/wing to take off, a planning hull requires less enegy than a displacement one to climb onto the water and release.

I have done some thorough testing on boards in the 5 foot range with sub 1000cm^2 foils, but also different tails on a given board with XPS foam and aluminum tape. The best feel I found was V with sharp edges, barracuda type, as the release is progressive. Fanatic type tail also good but draggy at low speed. Displacement tail increasingly sticks with speed.
Flat bottom and sharp rails help at medium speed, sharp tail helps especially right before take off.

Now this might be different on longer boards, and on bigger/slower foils, keen to hear feedback on this (?) Also, the perfect planning shape (very flat and sharp edges) does not bounce off the water well on turns.. so a compromise has to be found..
Keen to hear other experiences, what people have found trying out different shapes.
